Due to Harry Kane’s injury, FC Bayern coach Vincent Kompany is currently forced to improvise. Although the German record champions’ squad has a lot of quality even without the Englishman, they are missing another goalscorer. If Kane had his way, a long-time teammate from Tottenham could help.
As part of the traditional fan club visits by the Bayern professionals before Christmas, Harry Kane went to Bad Aibling on Sunday. Accompanied by a brass band, the still injured striker received an enthusiastic welcome.
In a question and answer session, the 31-year-old finally opened up about the matter. A fan wanted to know which former teammate from Tottenham days Kane would most like to see next to him at FC Bayern.
“Sonny,” replied the world-class attacker – meaning Heung-min Son. With the South Korean, Kane had formed one of the most dangerous duos in the Premier League for years.
After Kane’s record transfer to Munich, in which 95 million euros changed hands, Son became the new captain at Spurs. He is still one of the North Londoners’ most important players.
In the current season, Son collected four goals and assists in twelve appearances. His working paper expires at the end of the season, but what happens after that is unclear.
FC Bayern is outstandingly occupied in Son’s parade position
Even though Son knows the Bundesliga very well from his time in Hamburg and Leverkusen, there is hardly any reason for him to return to Germany.
Now 32 years old, the South Korean international is already of mature footballing age. Only a few Bundesliga teams could afford his salary, which is the equivalent of well over ten million euros per year.
Bayern have no need for personnel in Son’s prime position on the left wing anyway. There is only a gap in the center of the attack without Kane – but according to sports director Max Eberl, the Munich team does not want to sign a backup in the winter.
