Kane scores three times in a huge win against Mainz

FC Bayern celebrated a resounding victory in the Bundesliga. It wasn’t just Harry Kane who was in top form against Mainz 05. Four DFB stars scored.

With a gala performance on Saturday afternoon, FC Bayern made a statement in the Bundesliga and consolidated second place in the table. After the final whistle, the scoreboard at the Allianz Arena read 8:1 (3:1).

National coach Julian Nagelsmann was particularly impressed by the performance of coach Thomas Tuchel’s team shortly before the squad was nominated for the international matches in March. Because: four national players were on the top scorer list. The outstanding Leon Goretzka (19th, 90th +2), Thomas Müller (47th), Jamal Musiala (61st) and Serge Gnabry (66th), who returned after a long injury, were all successful.

But the man of the game was once again an old friend: Harry Kane. The Englishman scored a hat-trick (13th, 45th +7, 70th) and broke the 30-goal mark after just 25 Bundesliga games. The top newcomer is only eleven goals away from ex-Bayern star Robert Lewandowski’s record. The Pole scored a total of 41 goals in 2020/2021.

Things look bleak for Mainz in the bottom of the table despite a dream goal from Nadiem Amiri (31st). Due to the high defeat, the guests’ goal difference deteriorates drastically. In all likelihood, the Rheinhessen are now only concerned with relegation place 16, because the first non-relegation place, 15, is already nine points away.

That’s how the game went

Bayern immediately got going. After less than a quarter of an hour it was 1-0. Müller sent Musiala into the penalty area. He danced past Mainz keeper Zentner and then had an eye for Kane, who slotted in.

Mainz shortened the score with a free kick out of nowhere. Amiri’s beam landed right in the crease. An unpleasant scene then occurred when Mainz midfielder Josuha Guilavogui initially remained unconscious after a collision. Like Davies, he also had to be substituted (35th).

Shortly before the break, Bayern stepped on the gas again. Kane increased after a strong assist from Goretzka. At the start of the second half, the home team finally pulled the plug on the guests. Müller pushed a pass from Musiala into the net. The 21-year-old then became the goalscorer himself following preparatory work from Kane, before substitute Gnabry made it half the dozen after another assist from Goretzka.

Kane then scored the hat-trick. After Dier’s header, he also scored with his head. The goal counted according to video evidence. Goretzka then scored the final goal and crowned his outstanding performance with his second goal in stoppage time.
