Once again gassed for the World Rally Championship Kalle Rovanperä and Jonne Halttunen received an addition to their prize lockers at the weekend.

The Finnish motor sports association AKK-Motorsport has decided to give the title of motor sportsman of the year to the champion duo. Rovanperä and Halttunen also received the same recognition last year, when they won their first world championship.

The title was awarded on Saturday evening at the association’s cruise, but neither of the awardees was seen there.

– It’s a great award and it’s great to receive it again. Unfortunately, I couldn’t make it there this time, but I’m sure you’ll have a really fun night going on there and it will continue after this as well. Thank you very much for the award and happy motorsport year for the next season to everyone, Rovanperä stated in his video greeting.

A national celebration awaits the power duo that renewed the World Championship title in mid-December. The city of Jyväskylä organizes an event open to everyone on December 14 at Lutakonaukio. Rovanperä has promised to drift to the public. Information is also asked from Toyota’s team manager Jari-Matti from Latvala.

Like last year, Rovanperä and Halttunen will arrive with their season’s race car.

Rovanperä will take the next rally season more relaxed. The 23-year-old double champion plans to drive only selected rally races, which will give him more time for drifting, for example.
