Kalervo Kummola, 79, tells Iltalehte that he plans to run for another term as mayor of Tampere.
Kummola started in the position in May 2023, when the then mayor Anna-Kaisa Ikonen was elected to the parliament.
Municipal elections will be held next spring.
Will we still see Kalervo Kummola vying for the mayor’s position?
– It should be decided next week, but we’ll probably see. The idea of a mayor is great. Every four years we measure how well he has done his job, “Kale” said.
– I will probably make a decision on Tuesday or Wednesday. The idea is starting to lean in the direction of going along.
SDP MP Ilmari Nurmi, 33, has been called Kummola’s toughest competitor in the mayoral race.
– The people can afford to choose. There are two quite different candidates. Nurminen himself has described that there is an older conservative in the race and a younger one… what was it, a left-liberal, Kummola searched for his words.
– I don’t consider myself very conservative. I have always tried to be on time, he added.
