The coach expressed his priorities: he wants a deputy Yildiz and a winger. But the club must intertwine the needs with the transfer plan addressed for next summer
Two shots to believe it. To give strength to the coach’s work and balance to a phase of growth which – everyone at Continassa hopes – can consolidate once and for all a hard core to start a new cycle for the club. Whether what is underway at Juve turns out to be yet another failed attempt or not will ultimately be understood over time: at this stage, however, no one intends to leave anything to chance. It is a precise input from the owners, who maintain a direct line with the management and are very happy with how the season is evolving under Spalletti’s care. But now we need to accelerate on the market, grasping the nuances that can give Juve enough to be more solid until the end.
bargain market
—
The Juve market in the January window will mainly be made up of opportunities. In recent sessions, extra interventions have arrived from the owners, but this time it won’t be like that: the pact between Spalletti and the club, at the time of the agreement, actually included the availability to make some adjustments during the race, but nothing too demanding. Also because the coach is convinced that he already has a competitive team to achieve the minimum objective of the Champions League. So much so that the two priorities identified in this phase concern only two fairly marginal roles: Yildiz’s reserve and that of Kalulu, considered the clear failure of Joao Mario.
fits
—
Spalletti changed his mind about the midfielder, again after having made the most of the material available. The decisive action was the change of formation: to make the 4-2-3-1 the midfielders he has are enough, raising a few midfielders to the midfield at most. The good feedback from McKennie and Miretti convinced him not to force his hand for other additions: also because the opportunities don’t get too hot and involve an insertion that takes time. Juve rather needs joints that must protect the balance that has been achieved: Chiesa could be a good opportunity if Liverpool softens their position, so as to have an extra striker to offer in any position; Maldini could become simpler, if Atalanta is open to the sale, and in some ways more functional in the logic of the rotations that the coach intends to make.
surprises
—
The most complicated issue to unravel in this repair market concerns the exterior. Juve have few of them and would like to let go of someone who is not taken into consideration due to the economic weight they have: Joao Mario was rejected by Spalletti as well as by Tudor, Kostic is in his last year of contract and earns a lot. And if Cambiaso on the left could find Cabal as a good replacement, Kalulu on the right needs a suitable partner to avoid having to overdo it in the second part of the season too: Mazraoui in time from United could be an opportunity; Mingueza playing for Celta Vigo (of which Barcelona has 50%) could be an investment idea to anticipate an expected need in the summer, just like the midfielder for McKennie’s deadline. Unless Juve makes a sale, this time not of a young player: Comolli wants to protect the club’s assets, which is why he is more inclined to evaluate offers for some top players who have less space in their choices: Gatti is tempting in the Premier League, Galatasaray is pushing for Koop.
