The Juventus coach wanted to bear his testimony on the 41st anniversary of the massacre that preceded the 1985 European Cup final against Liverpool and which cost the lives of 39 people

Yesterday marked the 41st anniversary of the Heysel massacre, in which 39 fans died, 32 Italians. Luciano Spalletti wanted to remember with a few lines that tragedy, which occurred in Brussels before the European Cup final which was then won by Juventus over Liverpool.

“I was 26 years old when I remained motionless and astonished in front of the TV, like millions of other people in the world. At the beginning it was not easy to understand what was happening but as the minutes passed, the more the images and words told the story of the tragedy that was taking place. I didn’t know that those images would never come out of my head again. In these 41 years many things have happened, a lot has changed in terms of safety, violence in stadiums has decreased. But there is still a lot of work to be done and to continue to commemorate it is a duty for the memory of those who lost their lives that damned evening, but it is also necessary because we must never let our guard down, we must never stop fighting against those who want to take away the happiness of football to make room for violence.”
