The very first Tour of Norway for women immediately got off to a good start. The opening ride was treacherous, with several local rounds in the final phase that always contain a climb of 2.3 kilometers of an average of 7.7 percent. The finish was on top of that slope.
In the final, Ghekiere managed to make the leap to her proposed teammate Sarah Gigante. The Izegemse then drove to victory and the leader’s jersey in Norway. “Oh my God,” Ghekiere puffed after the effort. “This was so difficult. Fortunately I had something left. I gave everything and saw that I hit such a gap.”
