There will be no prosecution for the abuse of a conductor in a train between Delft and The Hague last year. The Public Prosecution Service (OM) has dismissed the case for lack of evidence. That confirms a spokesperson for the OM NRC after reporting from de Volkskrant Wednesday.
The mistreatment took place in April last year in a train on the route between Delft and The Hague HS. It would be a group of six to eight young people who attacked an NS conductor and a driver. The VVMC railway union reported at the time that the conductor had been kicked and beaten. The woman was also pushed down the stairs, with a broken arm as a result. The operator would have been hit. Only the conductor reported.
Trains for 3 minutes
After the incident, a large -scale protest action against violence towards train staff followed, where all trains in the Netherlands were stopped for three minutes. Trade unions FNV and CNV proclaimed politics last year to take stricter measures against public transport aggression.
“As a result of the declaration, extensive research has been done,” the OM now reports. A suspect came into the picture, but the OM found insufficient evidence and dismissed the case. “The suspect has been informed of this.”
Last year the Dutch Railways reported 1,042 violent incidents against employees: an increase of 8 percent compared to the year before. It was the third time that the number of incidents rose. There are no figures for 2024 yet.
