Red Bull builds: Jürgen Klopp gets reinforcements – but not on the pitch. An ex-journalist plays an important role.

Red Bull continues to restructure his worldwide football strategy – and will put Jürgen Klopp a new man at his side in the future. From October 1st, Florian Scholz will take over the newly created position of the “Global Head of Soccer Commercial”. This confirmed Red Bull Managing Director Oliver Mintzlaff in a message to the club’s clubs.

The distribution of roles is clearly regulated: Klopp, who has acted as a global football director since the beginning of the year, continues to be responsible for the sporting areas. Among other things, Mario Gómez as a technical director and Zsolt Löw as Head of Soccer Development. In the future, Scholz will take over the commercial and financial tasks in the world’s worldwide football network.

Klopp explained that there were “very positive and promising conversations” in advance. He is looking forward to the collaboration and to develop the Red Bull football portfolio together.

Scholz is 46 years old and used to work as a journalist, including for the “Sport Bild”. In 2015 he switched to the then second division team RB Leipzig as media director. From summer 2020 he worked for the Bundesliga club as a commercial director until the end of March 2023. In his new function, he should support the managing directors of the Red Bull clubs in strategic, partnership and business questions and report directly to Mintzlaff.

In addition to RB Leipzig, the Red Bull network also includes the New York Red Bulls (USA), RB Bragantino (Brazil) and RB Omiya Ardija (Japan). Red Bull is the main sponsor in Salzburg, and the company also holds minority investments to Leeds United and the French club FC Paris.
