Mediated ex-pro Cha?
After the departure of Paulo Bento, there is a vacuum in the national coaching position in South Korea. The 53-year-old Portuguese had looked after the “Taegeuk Warriors” since 2018 and scored an average of 2.07 points from 57 games, but he resigned at the end of the year. Since then, the technical director of the association, Michael Müller, who also once worked for the DFB, has been looking for a new head coach. In the Transfermarkt interview, the Sauerland native recently said about the search for a new coach: “The process of finding a coach, for which I am responsible, is based on clear criteria. We deliberately take so much time because we want to find a coach whose values fit the association.”

The association and the 58-year-old are said to be in talks about possible cooperation. According to the magazine, the contact with the former German national coach “probably” came about through the former Bundesliga professional Du-Ri Cha. At last year’s World Cup, Klinsmann worked with the former Frankfurter, among others, on the FIFA technical working group that analyzed the matches in Qatar.
South Koreans with the most Bundesliga appearances
If an agreement is reached, it would be Klinsmann’s third post as national coach after Germany and the USA. Most recently, he worked at Hertha BSC until February 2020. South Korea could, however, get a German national coach again after Uli Stielike. The 68-year-old played 38 games on the sidelines for the Taegeuk Warriors between 2014 and 2017.
