The Jumbo supermarket in the Cité shopping center in Assen will close on 2 July. This has been decided by the head office of the supermarket chain.
The current lease runs until March 2023. However, Jumbo’s head office has decided to close the store earlier. Lidl and Trekpleister, which are also in the shopping center, have been informed of the closure.
The reason for the early closure is unclear to the manager. There is good news for the staff, he says. “Anyone who wants to continue working at Jumbo can stay. The current staff will be divided among other branches in Assen and the surrounding area.”
The manager does not know what will happen to the Jumbo business premises after March. “It’s not up to us, but it’s a large building with a hefty rent.”
