FC Schalke 04 are looking for an experienced central defender at Celtic Glasgow. As the “WAZ“, “sky“ and a little more offensive Fabrizio Romano report, the 29-year-old Frenchman is in Germany for talks and he is said to have completed sports medical examinations.
The German media emphasize that the agreement with the Scots is not final, while Romano writes that Jullien will sign a contract with the second division champions later today. A loan with an option to buy is under discussion – for this the central defender would have to extend his contract in Glasgow, which expires in 2023.
Jullien has experience of Germany from his time at SC Freiburg, where he made 50 appearances for the first team (one game) and second team (49) between 2013 and 2016. The right-footed player then moved to Toulouse FC, where he recommended himself to Celtic with strong performances for an €8 million transfer in 2019.
With the Scots, however, Jullien often struggled with injury problems, which is why the “WAZ” emphasizes the importance of the scheduled examinations. Between September 2020 and the end of 2021 he missed 80 competitive games due to back and knee injuries. In the past season, the defender was only on the field for 16 minutes in the FA Cup Round of 16 against second division team Raith Rovers (4:0) and was not even called into the squad in the championship round.
