Julian Weber is in the final of the World Championships in Athletics. The javelin thrower won confidently – in contrast to his compatriot.

The German champion Julian Weber confidently reached the final in the javelin throw at the World Athletics Championships in Eugene and underlined his medal ambitions. The Olympic fourth-placed weaver clearly surpassed the required 83.50 meters in the first throw with 87.28 and can go into the medal decision on Saturday (6.35 p.m. OT/3.35 a.m. CEST on Sunday morning) with plenty of self-confidence.

More Germans injured

“I feel so good, it was so much fun here, it felt so easy, it’s pretty much right,” said Weber on ZDF. Only defending champion Anderson Peters from Grenada (89.91) and Indian Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra (88.39) were better in the qualification.

Eliminated is Andreas Hofmann, who denied the pre-elimination. “My back is tight, I’ve twisted two vertebrae in the last two weeks. Despite the very good physio support, there wasn’t enough time for me to show my performance here. I’m very disappointed,” said the man from Mannheim. He invalidated his three throws that landed before the 75-meter mark.

The German record holder Johannes Vetter (Offenburg), world champion in 2017 in London and third in the 2019 World Cup in Doha, had canceled his start due to a shoulder injury. Rio Olympic champion Thomas Röhler (Jena) is missing after poor performance recently.
