On the 1st matchday of the new season, BVB must accept a setback. Julian Brandt is frustrated after the game.
The players and those responsible at Borussia Dortmund have certainly imagined the start of the new Bundesliga season. In the case of relegation candidate FC St. Pauli, BVB led 3-1 up to the 85th minute, then Jungstar Filippo Mané saw the red card after a clipping against FCSP professional Abdoulie Ceesay. The Hamburgers were also awarded a penalty, then transformed this and a short time later.
“In the end it was the sticking point, we are less,” said BVB star Julian Brandt after the game at the Sky microphone. “In the end we let ourselves be bought a bit, then collect the 3: 3, was a very nice goal.” Eric Smith had put the ball fantastically in the goal of the Dortmund’s goal. Nevertheless, Brandt was: “In the end, if we run 3: 1, we clearly have to bring it better across the line.”
The former German international had contributed the third BVB goal himself and was initially happy after this. The reason: “Because I thought we couldn’t take it anymore.” Basically it was “not a good game” of the Dortmund, but then Brandt made it clear. “The rest is history: it is a shame that we still give it up.”
The red card against Mané came up again. Because: The many references were already a problem with BVB last season. A Dortmund professional in the league was sent for a shower six times. With no team, players flew off the pitch.
Even then, many points were left due to these red cards, analyzed Brandt. The team has now taken this shortcoming to the new season. “It just hurts in the long run,” said the 29-year-old. “At some point you can no longer explain that. Because we have to learn not to play less with one man in the important moments.”
BVB will have the chance of reparation after the disappointing opening game in the coming week. On Sunday evening, the team of coach Niko Kovač meets Union Berlin at home.
