Julia, oldest West Flemish (109) has passed away
Julia has five sons and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. There are even great-great-grandchildren. At her 108st Julia said to us on her birthday: “I never thought I would grow that old. We always ate farm food and never drank much, worked a lot and had a bit of luck. That’s how it went. I don’t understand myself that I’ve grown so old.”
The farewell service will take place in an intimate family circle. Godelieve Voet (108) from Lo-Reninge would now be the oldest West Fleming. She will go on a pilgrimage to Lourdes in July. “She is the oldest person who will ever have made this pilgrimage, both from Flanders, but also locally in Lourdes,” said her grandson Danny Cool.
