Fox, 35, appeared in the costume on the red carpet of a Halloween party in New York. After the large number of negative reactions on social media, the actress made herself heard in a statement on Instagram, calling her outfit “not a costume, but a statement.”
“The image of the delicate pink suit splattered with blood is one of the most poignant contrasts in modern history,” said Fox. “It was a performance, a protest and a condolence all in one.”
She ends her message with the text: “Long live Jackie O.”
Jackie Kennedy wore the pink suit with matching hat and white gloves when John F. Kennedy was shot in Dallas. Before standing next to Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson during his swearing-in ceremony aboard Air Force One hours later, she refused to change. Jackie Kennedy’s original suit has been in the National Archives in Maryland since 1964.
