Jukka and Timo, in their sixties, are the most stylish couple in Finland

The Lohja couple Jukka Turunen and Timo Ranta dress completely identically.

Jukka Turunen64, and Timo Ranta, 65, have held one for over twenty years. Already in the early days of the relationship, the men noticed that their style and taste in clothes are very similar.

Today, they dress completely identically.

Before retiring, the couple worked together as cafe owners in Lohja. In addition, Jukka worked as Radio Media’s sales director and Timo in the restaurant industry. Today, Jukka is also involved in Lohja’s local politics as a city councilor and chairman of the culture and leisure board. The couple’s family also includes the Italian greyhound Helmi.

The men describe themselves as active freemen. Shared hobbies include traveling in Finland and abroad and camping at a summer cottage located a short boat ride away in Lohjansaari’s Mussaari. In the summer, the couple goes camping and drives in an old open-top Saab in different parts of Finland.

An active lifestyle also includes sports and fitness. A common, important hobby is also culture, such as concerts, theater performances and art exhibitions.

The Pyörre home, built by Miesten Lohja for the housing fair, competed this season to win the Finland’s Most Beautiful Home TV program and took silver. Donitsi’s model house was one of the favorites of the fair audience and was chosen as the best house of the housing fair and also received an award for the best interior design.

Jukka and Timo enjoy organizing parties at home for relatives and friends. The duo organizes home concerts with visiting performers in Pyörtee, among other things.

From clothespins to an identical style

We decided on a consistent style, because in the beginning of the relationship it became clear that the men liked a similar style and the same clothes.

Many of the men’s clothes and outfits are years old: men emphasize that clothes should not be disposable. Jenni Gästgivar

– We liked the same colors, patterns and clothes, because we had very similar tastes. In the early days, when we were shopping for clothes, we even had arguments about who should buy which clothes, says Jukka.

– We ended up buying the same clothes, so that one chose a blue, the other a red sweater from the same sleigh. Our wardrobe therefore contained the same clothes, from the same brands, but in two different colors, continues Timo.

At some point, the men realized that why couldn’t they both buy the same yellow shirt if they both liked it. So today they have exactly the same clothes, both in the same colors.

Men’s favorite clothing brands include Sand, Tommy Hilfiger, Finnish Turo and Ray-Ban. The department stores Stockmann and Sokos are places where you can get credit for clothing purchases. In addition, the Solo for Men men’s clothing boutique in Helsinki, which has already closed its doors, was one of the couple’s regular addresses. Jenni Gästgivar

– It’s not about pursuing something special, but dressing up is genuinely fun for us and also easier, because anyone can find clothes for both, emphasize the men.

Men’s identical Dressing Style attracts a lot of admiration and attention both in Finland and abroad. Jukka and Timo are often mistaken for twins.

– People come to chat, give thumbs up and smile as they pass. We are even asked for group photos. Our identical dressing is good-naturedly surprising and clearly brings joy to others as well, says Jukka.

For example, on vacation in Milan, a street style photographer stopped Juka and Timo for outfit photos. On the Central American cruise, on the other hand, the American tourists asked the couple for group photos every day, because even the men’s outfits changed several times a day.

Without style rules, but anticipating future trends

Jukka and Timo dress purely with intuition and do not have any style rules.

– We are especially attracted by bright colors and patterns, i.e. not the most typical clothes for Finns. We are strong summer dressers and we were already thinking a few weeks ago at the clothing stores in Helsinki, what could be the trend color of the coming summer and whether we could already buy some clothes for next summer. In particular, we anticipate the purchases of suits for the coming seasons, because it may be more difficult to find them at the moment of need and any changes made to them should be made in advance, Jukka and Timo open.

Basically, however, men plan their outfits to be identical in advance, down to the accessories: so everything can be found in duplicates. So there is every scarf, pair of shoes, tie, pocket square and pair of sunglasses for both.

Only a few pieces of silver jewelry differ. The sock box looks the same and all the more special statement socks are always bought in pairs, because they are part of the whole outfit. Only the underwear is different for both of them, because that’s where their tastes differ slightly.

During the Central American cruise, the couple’s outfits changed several times every day: they had packed different outfits for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Jenni Gästgivar

– We also have occasional slips when we notice in a hurry in the car or on a trip to the grocery store that one person may have chosen lighter jeans than the other or accidentally a different pair of shoes. But the material has to be the same and we do plan the outfits together in advance, says the couple.

They are almost the same clothing size: one has slightly longer legs and the other has a slightly wider shoulder line, so clothes are usually bought in parallel sizes.

The men celebrate in identical outfits, even if the other is the hero of the day. Jenni Gästgivar

MORE ON THE SUBJECT

Juka and Timo’s shopping tips

1. Prefer brick-and-mortar stores: men say that they are representatives of the old school and that they trust online stores more often, in addition to their own intuition, to the professionalism of the store staff. In addition, this way you can try out the feel of the material on the spot, adjust the fit, and any changes can be started right away.

2. Department stores and multibrand stores: you can see a curated selection and the collections of several brands at the same time. You may also get to know new brands this way.

3. Online shops, especially accessories: in online stores you can find accessories that would not necessarily be available in Finland, and it is easy to buy such items in pairs online. In addition, if the sizes have run out of stock, you may be directed directly to purchase the missing sizes from the brand’s own online store.

4. Check the supply of outlet stores, especially when traveling: you can make affordable, personalized discoveries. In the case of Juka and Timo, though, sometimes a challenge comes up, because you can no longer find clothes or accessories in two pieces or in the right sizes for men at the outlet stores.

5. Definitely against disposable culture: men advise to buy only high-quality and timeless for you: this way you can easily wear the same outfits for years or even decades. Many of their favorite clothes from years ago are still in regular use.

6. Pay attention to your style: Jukka and Timo emphasize that good style does not depend on price, but on courage and the right combination of clothes. You can see this especially when traveling, because in many cultures more attention is paid to dressing and it is more acceptable. When it comes to Finnish men’s clothing, they would especially like to see a bolder use of colors and to even sometimes forget the eternal classic shades such as gray, black and white.
