Joanne van Lieshout (23) from Lierop won a silver medal during a Grand Slam judo tournament in Mongolia on Saturday. She lost in the final of the 63 kilogram category to world champion Haruka Kaju from Japan.

This is the fifth Grand Slam title of her career for the Japanese. Kaju became world champion in 2025.

Van Lieshout was crowned European champion for the first time in her career in mid-April, in Tbilisi, Georgia. The 23-year-old Lieropse then defeated the French Manon Deketer in the final.
