Standing ovations for judoka Oliver Bahr (30) in the Berlin exhibition hall.

He threw the Hungarian Gabor Kantor on the mat with a Seoi Otoshi (shoulder throw by lifting) after almost two minutes and won silver.

With joy he showed the fans the Bahr victory dance around the mat. His girlfriend Viktoriya Shokolnikova, who won gold, also cheered.

Kantor’s parents Thomas and Cornelia Bahr had come from Lörrach and were delighted. The mother proud: “It is his greatest success. Oliver started with football, he is a fan of SC Freiburg. He has dedicated himself to judo for eight years.” 22 years later he got Edel-Metall.

Why does he love the sport? The silver winner answered that: “You can throw yourself so nicely on the mat.”

On Tuesday, Bahr will start his job again in an electronics store in Lörrach.
