Judo trainer is also said to have abused women in Assen healthcare institution: ‘Everything was covered up’

The 39-year-old Hoogeveen judo trainer Johan JF, who is suspected of abusing three underage girls, also appears to have made a mistake at the Vanboeijen care institution in Assen, where he worked. Several women were allegedly assaulted and intimidated.

That reports RTV East. A number of cases may be added to the file of the criminal case against JF that was already underway.

The women involved confirm that they are aware of the signals of inappropriate behavior. The suspect worked as a supervisor at the healthcare institution from 2016 to 2018. The judoka was previously suspected of abusing three underage students at a judo school in Dedemsvaart and Slagharen.

In 2019, a number of residents filed a report, but those cases were closed due to lack of evidence. The Public Prosecution Service has not yet reopened those cases, but that is now a possibility.

Laura* was 26 years old when she first came into contact with Johan JF. She lived in a care institution and experienced abuse and violence in her youth. “He knew that past and took advantage of it. In the beginning he gained trust, but later he came to the room more and more often under the guise of a contact moment.”

That was the start of the abuse, she says. “Under the guise of playing around, he threw you on the bed, lay on top of you and touched you. He put his hands in such a way that you couldn’t do anything about it. You didn’t dare say anything about it either. because you were afraid they wouldn’t believe you, but they would believe him as a supervisor.”
