Judge rules that VTM is allowed to broadcast ‘De Kasteelmoord’ after all
Ten years after the facts, ‘De Kasteelmoord’ reconstructs the murder of Stijn Saelens. The program examines the role of the media and the functioning of the judiciary and the legal profession.
The judge has now ruled that a preventive broadcasting ban cannot be justified, so that the series may appear. “This program was made with the necessary respect for the people involved, follows all journalistic ethical standards and offers a factual retelling of the events,” says Maarten Janssen, channel manager at VTM. “In addition, the murder of Stijn Saelens is a historic matter that is still part of the social debate. We are pleased that the judge has taken these elements into account in the verdict and recognizes that freedom of the press is essential.”
The first episode will be shown on Monday 7 February, reports VTM.
