Singer Jannes was appointed honorary citizen of Emmen tonight during his second anniversary concert in Ahoy in Rotterdam. The accompanying certificate and medal of honor were presented to him on stage by Mayor Eric van Oosterhout.
The King of the Pirates, as his nickname is, is celebrating 25 years in the business with the concerts in Ahoy. “By appointing him an honorary citizen of Emmen, we not only express our appreciation for his successful career, but also for the way in which he has put Emmen on the map,” says Mayor Van Oosterhout.
“Jannes has made a special contribution to the municipality of Emmen over a long period of time,” Van Oosterhout continues. “He is a true ambassador of Emmen. We are proud that he was born and raised here.”
With his appointment as an honorary citizen, Jannes follows in the footsteps of other Emmen residents who previously received the award. The Rensen couple, skater Kjeld Nuis, Daniël Lohues, writer Pieter Koolwijk, trainer Dick Lukkien and numerous aldermen with a long record of service have also been appointed honorary citizens of Emmen.
