Joy, but also critical notes from winning AZ: “Could have hurt Ajax more”

There were certainly cheerful faces in the Alkmaar camp, but the protagonists also appeared very critical in front of the camera. “We were really sloppy for what we were doing,” says Pascal Jansen. The AZ coach felt that his team failed itself with the 1-2 draw against Ajax.

“We could hurt Ajax much more,” says Jansen about the chances his team missed, which meant that the score was not so high in the end. On the other hand, AZ gave away almost nothing defensively. “That is a big compliment to the team.”

One of the Alkmaar goals came from the foot of Dani de Wit. It was already his fourth goal of the season. “I was very happy with a lot of relief.” As a youth player, De Wit trained at Ajax and is now in his fifth season in Alkmaar.

After eight games, AZ is still undefeated and there are many positive voices about and for the Alkmaar club. It is therefore very pleasant for Jansen to be the trainer of AZ. These are less pleasant times for his colleague at Ajax, Maurice Steijn. “I wished him luck.”
