Joshua Kimmich was recently injured in his shoulder and wanted to start the big game against Leverkusen from the start. Things turned out differently – the Bayern star doesn’t like that.
Bayern star Joshua Kimmich had to sit on the bench until the 60th minute before he was substituted on for Dayot Upamecano in Leverkusen. After recovering from a shoulder injury, he was not allowed to play for more than 90 minutes, but was only on the pitch for 30 minutes and in the end had to cope with the clear defeat (0:3). His statements after the game showed that Kimmich had imagined the evening differently.
“I have done everything in the last two weeks to ensure that I come back quickly, that I come back healthy so that I can play from the start today,” said Kimmich. He then added: “Unfortunately it wasn’t enough.” Leon Goretzka and Aleksandar Pavlovic were in the starting line-up.
“Wanted to leave the two of them together”
Tuchel justified Kimmich’s bench position at Sky before the game with Goretzka and Pavlovic: “We wanted to leave the two of them together. Josh came back to training this week and was able to train almost 100 percent. But it wasn’t the moment to be 100 percent To take a risk because both played well together.”
However, Tuchel’s plan did not work in the game. Kimmich had nothing wrong with Tuchel’s switch from a four-man to a three-man chain: “I don’t think it was because of the tactics.”
