Joost Luiten has made an excellent start at the Portugal Masters. The 36-year-old Bleiswijker is in joint second place after the first round.

Luiten hit eight birdies at Vilamoura en route to a score of 63 (-8). Dane Jeff Winther also scored a 63, while Englishman Jordan Smith needed one strike less.

Darius van Driel also had a strong start with a score of 66 (-5). The golfer from Leidschendam is thus joint fourteenth. Wil Besseling (-3) and Daan Huizing (-2) occupy 45th and 57th place respectively.
