Joost Klein will become a coach in the new season of The Voice of Flanders and our southern neighbors are taking a huge risk, says Evert Santegoeds. “It’s going to be a hassle.”

The Flemish TV channel VTM has decided to hire Joost Klein (28) as a coach in The Voice. The singer, who also made headlines with our southern neighbors with his disqualification from the Eurovision Song Contest 2024, says he cannot wait ‘to find the underdog’ in the talent show and ‘win together’.

“What are you getting yourself into?”

Private boss Evert Santegoeds finds this very inconvenient. “I think: what are you getting into? Isn’t it possible to start a stable collaboration with such a man?” he says in the podcast. Strictly Private.

He continues: “Maybe I’m wrong and I will humbly apologize after the final, but I can also imagine that it will cause a lot of hassle behind the scenes, because that boy simply cannot be controlled.”

Aggressive

You may also wonder whether Joost knows how to behave behind the scenes of The Voice. At the Eurovision Song Contest he aggressively approached a camerawoman who was filming him backstage. “I would advise the camera woman not to film him when he just gets out of that chair,” says Evert.

RTL Boulevard star Aran Bade also has his doubts. “It’s smart if you want excitement, but it’s not without risk. It’s like a bottle of Tabasco that you throw over your food: if it’s too much, you’re in trouble and you have to put out the fire,” he says in the show section.

Artistic

Aran thinks Joost is too much of a fool. “Joost’s problem is that he is so idiosyncratic (…) that he has that artistic freedom that gets away from him a bit. This is also because he is surrounded by a group of friends, which also went wrong at the Eurovision Song Contest and over which AvroTros no longer had control.”

The Dutch The Voice returns after the New Year with Ilse DeLange, Suzan & Freek, Willie Wartaal and Dinand Woesthoff in the jury. For the first time, the Dutch edition will have no live shows: the final will be recorded this month, but will not be broadcast for another six months.

Peace name

Evert thinks that RTL is blundering with this. “How on earth do you keep that secret?! Tina Nijkamp won’t bring that up, but juice channels that want clicks will of course. It also strikes me that in Belgium the final is live. I didn’t like Betting Dat anymore when it was no longer live.”

He concludes: “It is a bit shabby, while you must have earned enough money from The Voice over the years, but yes, throwing away the last year has of course been a significant expense.”
