On February 23, Joop celebrates his eightieth birthday and that’s why he takes a look Full halls with Cornald Maas back on his life and he is already looking ahead to the future. Very exceptionally, Cornald was even given a tour of Joop’s house and office. His wife Janine and the children Iris and Vincent also have their say. A week ago it was announced that Vincent is expecting his first child.

Joop tells honestly that the corona time was a tough period for him. “I was paralyzed by insecurity, almost depressed. I closed myself in on myself and then I am almost unreachable for Janine,” he says in the broadcast that will be shown on Tuesday evening.

Everything was silent

Due to the corona measures, Joop had to close his theater at the beginning of 2020. The musical produced by his daughter could also be Hello, Dolly! could not continue and the work at his foundation came to a standstill. At that moment, Joop was at his wits’ end. “Normally, on the hardest things, I’m cool, like, we’re going that way. But now, I didn’t know how to fix it. I didn’t have a plan and I have to have a plan or I can’t live.”

Major concerns

Janine says she was worried about her husband. “I have never experienced Joop as intense as in the first month of corona. Everything fell out of his hands.” Ultimately, the production of the musical helped Diana & sons him through this dark period. His daughter Iris produces the musical, but asked for her father’s help because of her pregnancy. That’s how Joop saw the light shine again.
