Jonas Hofmann disappointed with the DFB squad: 13 scorers more than Schade, Vagnoman & Wolf

Will be back in the team in June

World Cup participant Jonas Hofmann (30) from Borussia Mönchengladbach was disappointed that national coach Hansi Flick did not nominate him for the upcoming international matches against Peru and Belgium. “I would have loved to have been there,” said the 30-year-old winger on Friday evening after Borussia’s 2-2 draw against Werder Bremen.

A few hours earlier, Flick had announced his squad for the first international matches since the World Cup preliminary round in Qatar. Some players who have been firmly established for years are missing – for example Thomas Müller (33) and Leroy Sané (27) from Bayern Munich and Ilkay Gündogan (32) from Manchester City are not in the DFB squad. Debutants Kevin Schade (21, Brentford), Josha Vagnoman (22, VfB) and Marius Wolf (27, BVB) have been nominated on Hofmann’s right side, which he has already played as a defender, midfielder and attacker in the DFB shirt.

According to Hofmann, Flick justified this by wanting to give younger players a chance. “It’s now about being back in June,” said the Gladbacher, who was particularly motivated against Werder and was the best man in his team. His assist to make it 1-0 was his 21st goal this season – a shame, Vagnoman and Wolf together have eight points.

“I’m sure that if he continues like this, he’ll have a really good future in the national team,” said Borussia coach Daniel Farke on his protégé’s performance against Bremen. Hofmann had prepared five big chances for Borussia against Werder and had a total of ten shots on goal.

Hofmann did not want to see the fact that he could recover better in the upcoming international break and prepare for the derby at 1. FC Köln after being knocked out by Flick as an advantage. “No, otherwise I’ll draw a lot of energy out of it. That gives me more of a boost when I’m with the national team,” said the 19-time player
