Anyone who wanted to see what is probably the most famous soundtrack producer in world cinema conduct in Germany had to dream of it for a long time. Last year the time had come: John Williams accompanied the Berliner Philharmoniker for three concerts to present some of his greatest pieces. The result has now also been released as a live album – and has become a chart success!

After just one week, the record, which contains tracks from “Harry Potter”, “Indiana Jones”, “Star Wars” and many other films, was number one in the German album charts. A nice birthday present for the film composer who turned 90 a few days ago.

Biggest classic success in many years

The placement has historical dimensions: no release by the Berliner Philharmoniker, but no score by John Williams has ever made it that far up the album charts. In 2020, Williams already made the best-selling orchestral album of 2020 with his recording of a concert in Vienna, which climbed to number six in the charts.

Anyone who has not yet been able to watch the master conduct will get another chance in a few weeks in Europe. In March he returns to Vienna to conduct the Vienna Philharmonic at the Musikverein. The Violin Concerto No. 2, which Williams recorded with violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter, can also be heard.
