Recommendations of the Editorial team
For the first time since his official withdrawal from the band, John Deacon personally signed a piece of Queen story. Together with Brian May and Roger Taylor, he signed a copy of the Queen album “A Night at the Opera”. The album from 1975 is considered a milestone in band history. Among other things, it contains the song “Bohemian Rhapsody”.
In honor of Freddie Mercury’s birthday
The three queen members made the signed album available for a charitable purpose. It is auctioned as part of the annual Freddie Mercury Birthday Party in Montreux. The event will take place on September 6th in the Casino Barrière. There used to be the Mountain Studios, in which Queen recorded numerous albums.
For a good cause
The proceeds from the auction of the Mercury Phoenix Trust flow directly into projects for the clarification and prevention of HIV and AIDS. According to the foundation, the signatures on the album come 100 percent from the three band members. It has been signed in the past two weeks.
Brian May and Roger Taylor are regularly committed to the Mercury Phoenix Trust. However, the participation of Deacon in this project is a rare exception. Since the death of Freddie Mercury in 1991, Deacon has not participated in any new Queen project. In 1997 he officially left the band.
No queen without freddie
In an interview, Brian May said that important business decisions will continue to be coordinated with Deacon. However, there is hardly any personal contact. Roger Taylor also commented in the past about the relationship to the past of the band.
He emphasized that a continuation of the cooperation would have been quite possible. However, only if Freddie Mercury was still alive. However, he also said that it was unlikely that Deacon would have remained in the band in view of his rather shy personality.
