The Nordic Ski World Cup in Trondheim in Norway starts on Wednesday. Cross-country skiing star Johannes Høsflot Klæbo has an appeal to the audience.

The fight for the medals at the Nordic World Ski Championship will open on Wednesday. The spectacle, in which the German ski jumpers are also starting at the weekend, takes place in Trondheim in Norway. Shortly before the start, the five-time Olympic champion and cross-country star Johannes Høsflot Klæbo sends an appeal to his own fans.

“Boos is not the best thing there is. Hopefully we can avoid this at the World Championships,” said the 28-year-old nine-time world champion to the Norwegian public service Bundeline. Why does he express himself? Because the Norwegian audience in the World Cup had recently boasted Swedish athletes.

However, Klæbo is optimistic: “I don’t think that will happen either.” The Swedish cross -country skier Moa Ilar, who was recently received little warm in Trondheim, said NRK: “It was not cool. It is not part of sport.”

She stated: “It is not a sports spirit to build others. In sports you have to cheer on people.” Ilar teammate Maja Dahlqvist also sees it that way, who can calculate medal opportunities at the World Cup.

From a German perspective, the north-sized ski World Cup becomes a highlight. The German Ski Association (DSV) recently announced its contingent. A total of 35 athletes were nominated who will start in the disciplines of cross -country skiing, ski jumping and Nordic combination.

It could be exciting, especially in ski jumping: Katharina Schmid has already won seven World Cup titles. With another gold medal, she would catch up with the Austrian Thomas Morgenstern, who became world champion eight times.
