– In my field, the appearance is something that is evaluated and considered relevant. For me who has suffered from a severe eating disorder during my years of study, it is something I have to take from, Harlin describes in the program.
For example, Harlin remembers the night, which he spent at Vaasa Central Hospital for drip. At the time, Harlin studied as a class teacher at Åbo Akademi.
According to Harlin, the night at Vaasa Central Hospital was the “longest” of his life and he knew the next school day would be canceled. Still, Harlin was confident about surviving.
In the morning, Harlin’s parents arrived at the hospital. They were crying and were concerned about the situation of their daughter. Harlin’s heart rate was low and the heart did not work properly.
“At that point, I knew that we could now,” Harlin says.
Harlin says that in the healing process of his eating disorder, a nutritionist was helped by a nutritionist who made Harlin realize that weight gain would not be dangerous.
– Step by step I came back to myself, says Harlin.
Harlin re -discovered the joy of exercise and began to compete in bikinifitness. In retrospect, he has stated that the species is not suitable for a person with an eating disorder.
– I had good support, but now I understand that it was a need for control. I wanted to control how I ate. Before the race I practiced for a long time and hard. And the short performance itself was evaluated based on what I looked like, Harlin describes.
Since then, Harlin’s relationship with many areas has changed. For example, he does not have a sports clock and does not think about food or appearance in the same way as before.
Harlin says he hopes his own daughter will never have to look at his body as critically as he.
Harlin also explains in the program how his husband Renny Harlin’s encounter changed his inner world.
– In some way, I found back to who I was sometimes. To that John, who loved life, Harlin describes.
The Harlins got married in 2021. They celebrated wedding parties in St. Tropez, France in the beginning of the fall. The brilliant wedding lasted for three days.
The couple has two children: a Coco daughter born in July 2022 and a Jules son born in April 2024. The family also includes the Cockapoo Breed Dog.
