Johan Vlemmix and Remon van Zoggel make statue for crown princess Amalia

Crown Princess Amalia can expect a surprise from Brabant on King’s Day. The national Orange fan Johan Vlemmix and the artist Remon van Zoggel from Schijndel have created a life-size statue of the crown princess, especially for King’s Day. “Including the pedestal, it is more than three meters high,” says Vlemmix. “And the image is a 3D print, built up layer by layer.”

They have been able to keep it a secret for a long time: Johan Vlemmix and Remon van Zoggel of the Dutch Deco Factory, but now the news is finally allowed to get out. “We made a lifelike statue of the crown princess for King’s Day and for crown princess Amalia,” says Johan. “It has been worked on in top secrecy for weeks.”

“We are also very curious about the reaction of the king.”

“We are very curious how the Royal family will react to the image. They will of course also see it when they are in Maastricht on Wednesday,” says Vlemmix, who is more than proud of the end result and the collaboration with Remon van Zoggel. “We are in a very beautiful place along the route in Maastricht. including the pedestal three meters high, so the statue will certainly stand out. We are also very curious about the reaction of the king.”

Vlemmix does not want to disclose the exact amount the statue cost. “But, you can assume that comparable (plastic) images, made in the same way, cost around 70,000 euros.”

“We have used a lot of photos as a source of inspiration.”

Amalia did not pose for her image. “We have used a lot of photos as a source of inspiration,” says Vlemmix. “All those photos were digitally read and translated into a lifelike image that could be 3D printed.”

The statue will be officially presented on Monday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Dutch Deco Factory in Erp. “Then we will also announce the exact plans for the image.”
