Johan Derksen buys his jackets at an exclusive specialty store in Utrecht, where they sometimes sell him a tie for 275 euros, says the VI mustache. “They are made of pure silk.”
The biggest star of SBS 6, Johan Derksen, is on television every evening and therefore needs an extensive wardrobe. Every now and then he picks up some new jackets from a specialty store in Utrecht, the TV mustache says in the podcast Greetings from Grolloo. “Yes, this is a first. There is a small fashion store in Utrecht: Conemans.”
Exclusive store
It is a very exclusive store, Johan explains. “The door is locked all day and if you want to buy a jacket or trousers, you have to ring the bell and then Mrs. or Mr. Conemans comes down. They are all regular customers who ring the doorbell, so you are really welcomed as if you were family.”
The VI star has been in the system there for years. “They know your size. They have those classic English jackets and trousers that a 77-year-old man likes to walk around in.”
275 euros
According to Johan, you have to pay a lot of money. “You sometimes choose a tie that happens to be made of pure silk and costs 275 euros.”
Why does he choose such an expensive thing? “Because I actually come from men’s fashion. I started in men’s fashion at Hendriksen, the main supplier in Deventer. So I know everything about men’s fashion. You had to do an internship if you were at the School of Trade & Detail and then I joined that men’s fashion store.”
Etiquette
However, Johan did not want to continue in fashion. “They had those old English brands, but I quickly realized: this is not for me, because they would make you unpack a thousand ties and shirts and then they would not buy anything, but you still had to walk with them and open the door for them, you know, that etiquette. I thought: this is not for me.”
“But I know a lot about it and I have all those professional diplomas. I can easily start in a fashion store tomorrow.”
