Joel Harkimo learned to talk more openly about his feelings on the set of the Iholla series.

– I’m the kind of person that if I decide to do something, I go all in, not half-heartedly. When I made that decision, I didn’t think anymore, I just let it go, says entrepreneur and sailor Joel Harkimo to Iltalehte.

That’s about it On the skin– program, in the upcoming season of which Harkimo will be seen as one of the stars.

Harkimo filmed his life for the series over a period of about three months. He says that there will be pieces especially from his sailing project. In 2026, Harkimo plans to participate in a competition to sail alone around the world.

– That was one of the reasons why I wanted to go along, since I’m facing something completely new myself.

The experience of filming the series was instructive for Harkimo. He says that he learned to give more of himself, because the purpose of the program is to speak openly and tell the camera about his life.

– Even though it was only for the camera and seemed a bit silly at first, it got better all the time, and it was more open to the voice as well.

Harkimo thinks that men talking openly about their feelings are still some kind of taboo.

– I think it is important to break the male model, that men also dare to speak.

In the summer of 2023, Harkimo married media personality and rally karter Janni Huss. The series also shows the married couple’s coexistence and everyday life, although both travel a lot because of their work.

– Janni said that you will definitely go along if you feel that you want to do it, Harkimo says about his spouse’s attitude towards the program.

– Our relationship and alliance is largely based on supporting each other in things that we want to accomplish. A spouse would be an asset in making dreams come true, and not one that says don’t leave now or this will take too much time.

– Janni has been a massive support, whether we are talking about solo sailing or On the skin– series, so he is always there for me and I try to be the same for him, Harkimo continues.

During the program, Harkimo focuses on his dream of solo sailing, but also opens up his thoughts about his other dream: fatherhood.

– I am a very family-oriented person and close to my family. Fatherhood is one of the biggest dreams of my life, he says.

Both Harkimo and Hussik challenge themselves in their sports. One runs on gravel roads, while the other flies on oceans. But who is more concerned about the other?

– I think that Janni is so cold-tempered and stubborn that I get more nervous when he sits in the rally car. It would be my worst fear if something happened to him. On the other hand, you can’t think about it too much and be afraid every time he goes on a trip.

– I know that he knows his job and everything is going well. Of course, it’s always exciting when he sits in a car that goes 180 kilometers per hour in the middle of the forest, Harkimo adds.

Joel Harkimo praises the other main stars of the Iholla series: “It was really great to be in good company making the program”. In addition to Harkimo, the program stars Lotta Hintsa, Chachi Hildén and Atte Kilpinen. Pete Anikari

Harkimo still plans to sit in Hussi’s go-kart car, but so far there hasn’t been a suitable opportunity.

On the skinHarkimo is satisfied with the implementation of the series. Sometimes, though, he says that he suffered from the so-called impostor syndrome when describing his everyday life. However, the idea had to be shelved and focused on shooting a lot of material.

– The announcement of the program is a bit exciting, because they are quite personal things, and in the series you can see life without a filter. It’s exciting how people accept it, but at the same time I’m looking forward to it and I have a good feeling about it all, Harkimo sums up.

On the skinprogram on the MTV3 channel and MTV Katsomo from January 22. See all program information and broadcast times on Telku.
