Joe Biden popularity hits new low

US President Joe Biden’s popularity in the United States hit a new low on Thursday. Only 41 percent of those polled now approve of their president’s policies, a drop of 4 percentage points from a week earlier. It is Biden’s lowest popularity in the weekly national poll since taking office early last year.

The Reuters/Ipsos poll also shows that six in ten Americans think the country is heading in the wrong direction. The corona pandemic and economic consequences are worrying many Americans.

Biden’s popularity remained well above 50 percent in the early months of his presidency, but fell in August last year as the US coronavirus death toll rose and the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan led to the fall of Kabul.

Biden’s low popularity is still higher than the low of his predecessor Donald Trump, whose policy was approved by only 33 percent of Americans in December 2017.
