President of the United States Joe Biden awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom (Presidential Medal of Freedom) for 19 people, they say In the White House press release.

Messi became the first Argentinian and the first male soccer player to be awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in the United States.
The decision was justified by the fact that Messi is the most successful football player of all time. In addition, he has supported healthcare and education programs around the world through the Lionel Messi Foundation. The man works as a Unicef goodwill ambassador.
The 37-year-old soccer legend has been playing in the American MLS league in the shirt of Inter Miami since the summer of 2023.
