Joachim Herrmann promotes Ski World Championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen

Garmisch-Partenkirchen (dpa) – Bavaria’s Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann (CSU) has campaigned for the Alpine Ski World Cup 2027 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

“Such a major sporting event would be an absolute highlight for the winter sports region of Bavaria,” said the politician on the sidelines of the Slalom World Cup in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

With a view to the already existing Kandahar and Gudiberg pistes, Herrmann emphasized the well-established infrastructure. “The sports facilities are there, so it’s a top application in terms of sustainability.”

There are a total of four applicants for the Alpine World Ski Championships. In addition to Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Crans-Montana in Switzerland, Narvik in Norway and Soldeu in Andorra also submitted the documents for organizing the title fights in five years. The decision on the venue will be made by the international ski association Fis in May 2022.

After 1978 and 2011, the people of Garmisch want to bring the alpine season highlight to Werdenfelser Land for the third time. When the 2025 World Cup was awarded, Garmisch lost to Saalbach-Hinterglemm in Austria.
