Jitters in the stomach! World’s longest suspension bridge opens in the Czech Republic | To travel

A pinch of fear, a hefty dose of adrenaline and a lot of butterflies in the stomach. That’s what you can expect when you venture to the longest suspension bridge in the world, which is officially opened in the Czech Republic from today. The 721 meter long bridge spans an entire valley and hangs no less than 95 meters above the ground.

Sky Bridge 721 is the name of the newest tourist attraction in the Czech village of Dolní Morava, in the north of the country near the Polish border. The bridge connects two ridges more than 1,100 meters above sea level.

The construction of the bridge cost about eight million euros and took two years. It is suspended from six main suspension cables and 60 wind cables. At 721 metres, the new Sky Bridge surpasses the 516 metre-long Arouca Bridge in Portugal, until recently the longest suspension bridge in the world.

The local government hopes the bridge will boost tourism in the area by offering a different view of the forested landscape.

Sky Walk

It is not the first special attraction that Dolní Morava hopes to attract visitors. In 2015, the village already received the Sky Walk, a 55-meter high construction that offers tourists a unique view of the Morava River valley and the Kralicky Sneznik Mountains. Visitors reach the top of the tower via a 710 meter long wooden spiral bridge. Daredevils can choose another option: via the “sleeve” – a sturdy net about 50 meters above the ground – they can clamber up to the highest floor. If you want to quickly get back to the ground floor, then take a 100 meter long slide down again.
