The Louvre in Paris, one of the world’s most famous museums, was robbed on Sunday. Reuters news agency reports that several thieves entered through a window in the morning and stole several jewelry. On X the museum writes that it is closed on Sundays for “exceptional reasons”.

Le Mondea French newspaper, writes that the robbers entered the museum between 9:30 a.m. and 9:40 a.m. They would have ended up at the famous Apollo Gallery, on the first floor. This is where the crown jewels of Napoleon and French kings are located. Jewels of “invaluable value” and “great historical value” were allegedly taken from that gallery, AP reports, among others. According to Le Parisien nine jewels from Napoleon’s collection were stolen.

On X writes Rachida Dati, the French Minister of Culture, that no injuries were reported in the robbery. The minister is on site, together with the museum and police teams. An investigation into the robbery is underway.

Last year the museum attracted almost nine million visitors, the vast majority of whom came from outside France. The museum includes the famous Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci as well Freedom leads the peoplea masterpiece by Eugène Delacroix.
