The threat of the police with an intestinal examination made a suspected jewelry thief in Waren an der Müritz spit out a gold ring that he had swallowed.

The 37-year-old man from Berlin and his friends are being investigated on suspicion of multiple burglaries, a police spokeswoman said on Thursday.

The duo, already known to the police, was noticed by officials at the Müritz Sail at the city harbor in Waren at the weekend. During a check, the police officers found nine gold rings, chains and other pieces of jewelry, some of which were personally marked, on the 37-year-old, which are believed to have come from burglaries. During the check, the 37-year-old suddenly swallowed a ring.

The public prosecutor then ordered an endoscopy, in which the stomach and intestines would have been examined more closely. But before that happened, the suspect choked out the gold ring and handed it over to the officers, police said.
