Jetten ‘afraid of bullying’ and Van der Plas confesses about math in Youth News Election debate | Politics

Caroline van der Plas had trouble with math as a child at school and can still use a little help. The BBB party leader made this outpouring on Sunday during the NOS Youth News Election Debate.

She responded to a question from Melody in the studio: “What do you find difficult and would you rather not tell?” Van der Plas: “I’m going to be very honest. A lot of people don’t know this about me. I was already very bad at arithmetic in primary school and I still can do that now.”

‘Very honest’

The BBB leader is now getting help. And she hopes for many seats in the House of Representatives to gather ‘even more experts’ around her. Melody was happy with the sincere answer: “I think it’s very honest. I also find math difficult and I try to do my best.”

The traditional debate during the Youth News provided the young – and older – viewing audience with more information. For example, PVV leader Geert Wilders loves meatballs and Frans Timmermans of GroenLinks-PvdA enjoys reading. “There are few things more beautiful in life than reading a good book.”

During the broadcast, which showed old school photos of the politicians, Dilan Yesilgöz emphasized that children should feel safe at school, without bullying. Rob Jetten, party leader of D66, joined in. “I found it very difficult to be myself at school,” Jetten said. “Because I like boys. I was ashamed of that and afraid of being bullied. It is very important that everyone feels safe.”

Wilders also believes that ‘everyone belongs’. But that is different from embracing Islam or Muslim schools, he reasons. The PVV leader would rather see Muslim boys and girls attend regular schools among Christian and secular children. That would be better for making friends and finding a job. “I say that to help the children rather than anything else.”

Turret

Best known among children are the politicians Geert Wilders, almost nestor in the House of Representatives, and Caroline van der Plas. It does not surprise him that Henry Bontenbal of the CDA is the least known. “No, because I have been here the shortest time, so I still have to work very hard so that someone knows me a little better.” Bontenbal, together with Yesilgöz and Wilders, managed to win the final game: building the Tower with blocks.
