Olympic champion in skiing Jessie Diggins unexpectedly missed the traditional sprint qualification on Saturday.

Diggins was 35th, when the top 30 skiers qualify. The explanation for the continuation of the Olympic champion’s fall was seen in TV pictures.

The American skier drifted off the track in the turns and was about to lose his balance. Diggins fanned himself with his hands to keep from falling backwards.

– It’s a wonder I didn’t fall. These rarely happen, Diggins told Expressen.

– I had no hope of a further place. To respect the competition and the other skiers, he returned to the track said to VG.

You can watch the situation in the video below:

Jessie Diggins drew the corner long. The Skiing World Cup can be watched on Elisa Viihde Viaplay and V Sport channels.

A skier criticizes the course of Les Rousses. There are enough corners at the end of the sprint course.

– One of the bends is really dangerous. Something needs to be done about it before Sunday’s race.

Norwegian Lotta Weng did not agree with Diggins at all. Rather, he hinted that there was something wrong with the Yankees’ own actions.

– It was not a dangerous point. Maybe he himself skied too aggressively. The road wasn’t even fast.

On Sunday, 20 kilometers will be skied in a traditional and joint start.

Big disappointment

Sweden was also disappointed in the qualification Ebba Andersson.

Andersson, who celebrated the third World Cup victory of his career on Friday, is not a sprinter, but the 31st place and failure to qualify were a big disappointment. The skier competes in the World Cup for the first time since December’s coronavirus infection.

– I had higher expectations, even though sprinting is challenging for me. I didn’t come to sprint skiing just to qualify before the heats. Feels like shit, he said to SVT.

Norway was the fastest in qualifying Kristine Skistad. All Finnish women advanced to the heats.

The batch phase starts at 15:30.
