Former football player and coach Jerko Tipuric is now a bus driver. Two weeks ago he broke down with a scheduled bus full of schoolchildren on the level crossing in Veldegem, near Zedelgem: “I asked the children if we were on the tracks, and they said yes. I then immediately started the bus, but the bus didn’t get off the tracks,” Tipuric looks back, “I then evacuated all the children and brought them to safety. At that moment you are not a human being, but an animal. Then you can freeze, fight or flee. “
He was able to evacuate the passengers and himself from the bus in time. A few seconds later the bus was destroyed by an oncoming train, the damage was enormous.
