Team Germany was on course for a medal in the super team ski jumping competition at the Olympics until the controversial cancellation due to snowfall. Jens Weißflog finds clear words about this.

Jens Weißflog has criticized the decision to cancel the super team competition in ski jumping at the Olympics. Even a week after the decision, the three-time Olympic champion found it incomprehensible. In an interview with “ran.de”, the now 61-year-old explained: “Every World Cup is interrupted for half an hour in such conditions. The fact that the competition was canceled was actually a farce.”

The competition was canceled after just a few minutes of waiting due to heavy snowfall. The inbound track was slowed down by the precipitation. According to the International Ski Federation (FIS), a fair competition was no longer possible.

At this point, the German duo around Olympic champions Philipp Raimund and Andreas Wellinger were on course for a medal thanks to a strong jump from Raimund in the third round.

However, because the jump could not be completed, the third round was canceled. To Germany’s chagrin. “The German Ski Association certainly hoped for more,” said Weißflog. The DSV Adler finished fourth in both the Super Team and Mixed. “They certainly expected a medal there.”

DSV sports director Horst Hüttel also made clear comments about the IOC’s decision afterwards. He said the entire behavior was “unprofessional” and “miserably bad.”
