After the chainsaw process is finished
Jens Lehmann is sued by his own lawyer

Because the legal bill seemed completely overpriced, the ex-national goalkeeper only transferred a fraction of the amount. The lawyer sued Lehmann and a settlement was reached. And even then Lehmann still wanted to act.
A remarkable legal dispute was heard in the Munich regional court on Monday: Jens Lehmann and his former criminal defense lawyer clashed – it was about money. According to “Abendzeitung” and “Münchner Merkur”, the lawyer demanded around 14,000 euros from the ex-national goalkeeper.
Background: Lehmann had commissioned the lawyer in connection with the proceedings surrounding the sawn-off garage on Lake Starnberg. At that time, the defense attorney had achieved that the neighbor’s criminal complaint against Lehmann was withdrawn and a high claim for damages was significantly reduced. The proceedings ended in 2023 with a six-figure fine, which was also later reduced.
Despite the legal success, Lehmann refused to pay large parts of the legal bill. The 54-year-old believes the hourly rate of 550 euros is significantly excessive. He therefore only paid a smaller part of the requested sum of 24,000 euros.
His current lawyer, who joined the trial via video link from Münster, particularly criticized the lack of transparency in the billing. It is not clear which services exactly the colleague is demanding money for. Lehmann himself and the plaintiff did not appear in court in person, but also took part digitally.
The presiding judge tried to reach an agreement and suggested a payment of 5,000 euros as a settlement. “Good legal work doesn’t come for free,” he clarified. While the other side agreed, Lehmann’s lawyer initially wanted to negotiate – but in the end both parties accepted the proposal.
The agreement is subject to revocation. Both sides have three weeks to do this.
