More than 15 years after the release of “Jennifer’s Body,” there is a crucial new development: screenwriter Diablo Cody is working on a sequel. This is the first time that a long-circulating rumor has become an active project.
While there has been loose talk about a sequel in recent years, the current status is much more concrete. According to a report from Dread Central, Cody herself confirmed on a live panel that she is writing the script and that both Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried are interested in returning.
A sequel that never quite went away
Since the original film flopped in theaters in 2009 and only later became a cult cult, rumors about a sequel have been circulating. The momentum has increased particularly in recent years: Amanda Seyfried indicated as early as 2025 that a second part could come – albeit initially worded cautiously.
Director Karyn Kusama also confirmed that Cody is “working on it right now” and described the direction of the project as “fun and crazy” – in the spirit of the original.
The film has undergone a remarkable re-evaluation over the years: what was once lost as a marketing misunderstanding is now considered a feminist horror cult film with a growing fan base.

Particularly exciting for fans: the original cast could also return. Both Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried have expressed interest in returning – and screenwriter Diablo Cody would like to have them both back.
The fact that the characters die in the first film doesn’t seem to be an obstacle. Seyfried herself played with this fact in interviews and made it clear that a sequel without Fox would hardly be an option for her.
Aside from official statements, Megan Fox in particular keeps the topic subtly alive. In an Instagram post, she took up an iconic line from the film with the caption “I go both ways”.
From flop to phenomenon
The fact that a sequel seems realistic today is mainly due to the late success of the first film. “Jennifer’s Body” has become a cult classic over the years – supported by its mix of horror, humor and feminist perspective.
It is precisely this reassessment that has rekindled the studios’ interest. After more than a decade and a half, the story about the demonic Jennifer and her toxic friendship with Needy could actually continue.
There are still no details about the story, start date or final casting. But after years of hints, the sequel is for the first time in a phase that could actually lead to production.
