In a recording of the interview, the crowd can be heard asking: “Did he really just say that?”
Jennifer Lopez has been in the music and film business long enough to always behave completely professionally and coolly in public – even when she receives inappropriate comments. This happened recently during an interview about her new film “Unstoppable”. But while the New York star continues to appear relaxed, fans react angrily to the interviewer’s statement.
Interviewer to Lopez: “You’re getting old”
In addition to the screening of the Amazon Prime Video film “Unstoppable” on Sunday, December 15th, there was also a Q&A session with Lopez. Variety editor Clayton Davis sat opposite her as an interviewer. He also wanted to take a look back and discussed the 1997 biopic “Selena” – about the singer Selena Quintanilla-Pérez – in which Jennifer Lopez took on the leading role. Davis said in the interview: “I can’t believe it’s been almost 30 years since ‘Selena.'” He then continued: “I can’t believe that we could do a 30-year retrospective of it and then we will you be 60 …” Lopez is currently 55 years old – so the interviewer’s calculation doesn’t quite add up. He added carelessly: “You’re getting on in years.”
The last comment may have been meant as a joke – and the musician and actress doesn’t even make a face about it. In the recording of the conversation, however, a new unrest can be heard in the audience and from the voiceover there is the stunned question: “Did he really just say that?”
Would you rather thank the fans than get upset?
Jennifer Lopez didn’t address the comment about her age, but took the opportunity to thank her fans who have always supported her throughout her career.
Why did she stay so cool in the uncool situation? Possibly because she already knew the type of person she was talking to – Clayton Davis had already interviewed her for the “Variety’s Awards” podcast.
More about “Unstoppable”
“Unstoppable,” which was supposed to be the focus of the interview, is a work produced by Lopez’s ex-husband Ben Affleck and released in September 2024. The film revolves around the story of Anthony Robles (played by Jharrel Jerome), who was born with only one leg. Despite all expectations, he becomes a wrestler at Arizona State University. Lopez plays his mother – Judy Robles.
