“When I signed the contract For Wednesday I hadn’t read all the scripts and I thought the character would be a lot darker but it wasn’t like that,” he said Jenna Ortega. “I didn’t know what the tone of the story was or what the soundtrack would be but then I had to get stuck because everything Wednesday and what I had to interpretaccording to the original script, for me it made absolutely no sense” she continued. This discontent would have prompted her to make changes to the script without first consulting the opinion of the writers: “There were moments on the set where I also became almost unprofessionalsince I started changing lines”.

a flat and boring character

In the intentions of the actress there was the need to make Wednesday’s character more three-dimensional than it was in the original script. According to Jenna Ortega, the “first” Wednesday it was flat and faced no growth pathall details that the actress thought they were hardly believable in a teenage character: “I’ve become very protective of Wednesday. You can’t lead a story without having an emotional arc, because then it gets boring and nobody likes youhe explained. ‘When you’re little and you say very morbid and hurtful things, it’s funny and endearing. But then you become a teenager and it’s bad and you know it. You have no more excuses.”

a different view of wednesday

This isn’t the first time Jenna Ortega has shared details of hers with the public way of conceiving the character of Wednesday and the difficulty experienced in trying to maintain a line of interpretative coherence, having to work with different directors (Tim Burton didn’t shoot all the episodes ed): “I felt like everyone wanted different things from her (Wednesday). I remember Tim didn’t want me to have any expression or emotion. He wanted a flat surface. It’s fun and great except when you’re trying to push a storyline forward, and Wednesday is in every scene. There were a lot of battles like that because I felt like people didn’t always trust me when I was crafting my path and its story arc.”
