(toskanews) – Jeff Beck’s personal guitar collection goes up for auction at Christie’s in January. The auction will include 130 guitars, amplifiers and accessories that the British rock legend, who passed away at the age of 78 on 10 January 2023, used during his career, which lasted almost sixty years.

Amelia Walker, sales director and specialist in private and iconic collections at Christie’s London: «The entire sale is of around 130 lots, comprising 90 guitars and around 20 amplifiers, cases, pedals and effects, and we hope to make more than one million pounds: that said, we imagine some guitars will fetch well above our estimates. We hope so,” he explained.

The most famous

The gem of this sale is certainly one of his most famous guitars, the Gibson Les Paul called Oxblood. «The most important lot at the auction is behind me. It’s a 1954 Gibson Les Paul, called The Oxblooda term invented by Jeff himself. Jeff purchased it in late 1972 in Memphis, while touring the area.

From the moment he purchased it, it became his main playing and recording guitar for at least the next two or three years. It appears on the cover of his first instrumental solo album, Blow by Blowreleased in 1975, and for many fans it is Jeff Beck’s symbolic instrument”, the sales director further explained.
